Musical activities abound at Messiah. We ‘make a joyful noise’ through our voices and fingers! Kantor Vicki Main is always seeking out additional musical talent. Currently our musical groups are:
Youth Bells
For our interested musical youth in Grades 6-8. This is for beginning skill levels and abilities. Rehearsing Tuesday evenings and playing periodically during our midweek services in Advent and Lent and occasionally on Sunday mornings.
High School Bells
For our high school students Grades 9-12 interested in a different kind of musical experience by “singing through their fingers” rather than their voices! This may be duet, trio, or group ringing depending on the interest. Rehearsing Wednesday evenings and playing periodically through the music season.
Adult Bells
College age and up with musical knowledge. They ring anthems, psalmody, descants, and help support the congregational hymn singing. Rehearsing Tuesday evenings and alternating between our two services on Sunday mornings.
Adult Choir
Post Confirmation age up through white/gray or no hair age. Joy in singing is the only requirement – musical knowledge can be helpful. Anthems, descants, part singing are all in the repertoire of this group. Rehearsing Wednesday evenings and alternating between our two services on Sunday mornings.
Solo/Duet/Small Group Vocal Ensembles
Used throughout the music season for additional special music.
Instrumental Opportunities
Primarily used during high festival times like Reformation, Christmas, and Easter in combination with our choirs for special music and congregational hymn support.
Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.
